Inside the Bellevue

Your guide to what's new, delicious and fashionable at the Bellevue!

Avenue of the Arts or Lovers' Lane?

Bellevue fan Karen Lewis, ED of the Avenue of the Arts was on CW57/CBS this morning sharing all sorts of ideas for Valentine's Day--many of them included tenants from The Belleuve. Check it out!

What do Philadelphia Magazine, XIX and 100 Powerful Women Have in Common?

They all came together to honor Denise Robertson of Campbell Soup Company as the winner of Philadelphia Magazine's Sixth Annual Trailblazer Award, dedicated to women in business.

Those Bains Boys

Our favorite brothers are profiled in this article on the City Paper's Meal Ticket blog by Felicia D'Ambrosio (who also took the photo) for a Valentine's series on the hottest food servers called Simply Edible.

 Here's what she said:

"In honor of our blessedly single brothers and sisters this Valentine’s Day, we kick off our Simply Edible photo series featuring the hottest food servers in our fair city. Our first installment takes us into the depths of the Bellevue Food Court to admire the boys of Bain’s Deli.

Do you take your turkey sandwich with a side of Hot Damn? ‘Cause that’s what you’re getting from the hunky ham-handlers of Bain’s Deli in the Bellevue Food Court (200 S. Broad St.).  Tattooed biceps under fashionably tight T-shirts? Check.  Rockabilly hair?  Yep.  Smoldering gazes over the sneeze guard?  All day long, ladies. Add in the sauna-like temperatures of this basement paradise and the lunch-room fantasy is complete."

War Merchants Book Signing at XIX

The cafe at sunset, on the way to XIX Bar for Gregg Feistman's booksigning.

Champagne to toast the author.

Books displayed next to XIX's fireplace, the perfect setting for a cold winter's night.

Gregg Feistman's thriller The War Merchants is set in Philadelphia and mentions XIX.

One of the first guests to arrive at the signing was Jenny Mercedes, a student of Feistman's at Temple University now working at PREIT.

Meet Author Gregg Feistman at XIX

This afternoon at 5 PM author Gregg Feistman will be at XIX at The Bellevue signing copies of his first book, The War Merchants. There will be a champagne toast to herald the book's publication. This event is free and open to the public.

Gregg Feistman is an assistant professor of public relations in the Strategic and Organizational Communications Department at Temple University's School of Communications and Theater.

The War Merchants casts as its heroine and hero a Philadelphia public relations executive and a business reporter who strive to expose a sinister plot to control the world's economy.

Best of all, XIX has a mention!

The 21st Anniversary Party at the Sporting Club

The Sporting Club celebrated its 21st Anniversary on Thursday, January 21. Guests from around the city gathered together to drink, dance, and dine for a good cause: Students Run Philly Style.

Here are a few pre-party photos: A red carpet ushered guests into the champagne bar in the main lobby.

The basketball court was transformed into a hip, chic party space by Beautiful Blooms.

The aerobics studio was made over into the VIP lounge.

21 of the prized blue Tiffany & Co. boxes, filled with $2,100 worth of prizes, were offered as raffle prizes.

And here are some from the party: Guests were treated to appearances by Governor Ed Rendell, new Philadelphia DA Seth Williams, PREIT Vice-Chairman George Rubin, and two student speakers, Anthony Whittington and Melanie Fullard, from Students Run Philly Style.

CTO Entertainment kept guests grooving all night on the dance floor.

More than $10,000 was raised for Students Run Philly Style.

Philadelphia's Walkability

I just plugged The Bellevue's address into Walk Score and just as I suspected, the walking around here is great! We scored a "Walker's Paradise"!

Seen at The Bellevue: Mike Quick

Former Eagles Wide Out Mike Quick headed up to XIX last night around 10.

Phoot Shoot in the Food Court

We're working on some publicity shots in the Food Court with Gary Mattie today. I'll be posting the fruits of his labor later in the week.

Meeting at The Bellevue's Food Courts

Lots of business gets conducted throughout The Bellevue but one of the best-kept secrets may be the Food Court. Job interviews, team meetings, simple get-togethers, legal signings and networking over a slice of pizza happen here throughout the week. Below Laura Horwitz of the Philadelphia Research Initiative and Tom Ferrick Jr. of Metropolis, a newly launched political website focused on Philadelphia, grab a cup of coffee from Amazon in the morning before the crowds hit.

Nicole Miller's Semi-Annual Sale!

Those in the know know that this lightning only strikes twice a year: a sale at Nicole Miller at The Bellevue. The January sale is from the 15th to 31st this year with 50 to 75% off on apparel, accessories and shoes. Mark your calendar NOW!

The Only Place to Dine on Christmas Day

Tierney Sign Casts a Lovely Glow

One of the top tenants at The Bellevue is Tierney, the advertising and public relations firm. Here their brass sign in the lobby catches the light off the snow covered trees.

Governor Rendell Stops by in the Snowstorm

Governor Rendell didn't let a little snow stop him from holiday shopping. He stopped by The Bellevue, said hello to the carolers and Trixie and then went on his merry way.

Snowy Saturday at The Bellevue

We got word from Santa early this morning that Rudolph's sick and he must stay by his side to be sure that his favorite reindeer can lead the gang next Saturday. But he did send along an elf named Trixie,

The Santa Singers

The weather outside is frightful...

But there's still a line at Starbucks.

Ringing in Hope

Salvation Army volunteers and the Salvation Army Band are ringing their bells and playing their instruments outside of The Bellevue.

Mrs. J. Maxwell Moran (seen on the left) and Mrs. Raymond Welsh will be there until 1:30 today.

Seen at The Bellevue: Tukufu Zuberi

You might know him as one of the stars of PBS' History Detectives or as a professor at University of Pennsylvania. But last night he strolled through The Bellevue's lobby.

The Bicycle Chef's Coverage of Lidia's Visit

Just Hear Those Sleigh Bells Jingling

Ring-ting-tingling too.. Santa's back! When the clock struck noon Santa came to life with help from his two elves. Families enjoyed cookies and hot-cocoa while taking photos and chatting with Santa.

Make sure to come next Saturday the 19th at noon to see Santa one last time before Christmas. There will also be Victorian carolers in the lobby from noon to 3.

Pepperpot Shock!!

I know what you're thinking and no don't worry this pepperpot has nothing to do with the Food Court. What were talking about here is the 2009 Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) 2009 Pepperpot Awards. The award is unique to Philadelphia and only awarded to public relation campaigns that have demonstrated excellence within the industry. Our goal here at Insidethebellevue.com has been and will continue to be to provide you with light information in a fun and entertaining way. Thanks to our dedicated audience and hard work, Insidethebellevue.com was awarded the 2009 Pepperpot in the Blogging category.
